If you’re writing a dissertation it’s up to you to show us the hows and whys!
You have a devise a method, prove to us your methods are sound, detail how you then collected your data and then show us what the data means, backing it up with sound reasoning.
My college professor in Cinema did his dissertation on Marshall McLuen’s theory The Message is the Medium.
So he took the same 10 minute film, screened it for audiences in 9″ black and white TV 21″ black and white TV, small screen color, big screen color, 16mm black and white, 16mm color, 16mm anamrophic, 35mm black and white, 35mm color, 70mm stereo 5 track sound and cinerama.
Took a lot of grant money to put all that togeather!
THEN he had to devise a testing or questioning method for his audience.
He had to show his methods were sound, double blind.
He probalby had to have a variety of test audiences.
Then he had to graph the responces out and show they were impressed more by the delivery method than the content if he was to PROVE McLuen is right or show it didn’t matter to show McLuen wasn’t right (to Falsify the theory).
Finally he had to draw conclusions backing that up with him imprical data.
It took him like 10 years to finish it and get his PH D

Im not “easing out” on you: View it from the consumer first. Then, view it from the seller/ manufacturer level. Dissertation in nothing flat!

This is a rather strange topic for a dissertation!! Are you sure you mean dissertation and not an essay?? In either case, you will have to decide on a methodology that will give you answers to the many questions you pose. One instrument you can use is the survey; however, the instrument needs to be focused and tested for validity before you use it in any dissertation!! Good luck.
Chow!!
