what was the question that the teacher gave you to write about?

Well, It depends on the prompt. For example, if you wanted to write about the effects of the Itailian Renaissance on European society, you would say “Some of the Italian Renaissance on society were…” Or “The Italian Renaissance had great effects on European society.”
It all depends on what you’re writing about. Just basically tell the main idea of your paper in one sentence.

A good thesis statement will usually include the following four attributes:
* take on a subject upon which reasonable people could disagree
* deal with a subject that can be adequately treated given the nature of the assignment
* express one main idea
* assert your conclusions about a subject
The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were absolutely essential for an Allied victory in the Pacific theater of WW2.
etc, etc, etc…

okay, so your thesis statement is going to set up your whole essay. the easiest way for me to write my thesis statement is to think about what three things i want to touch on in my essay. here’s an example:
i had to write a college entrance essay and i decided to write it about an experience in my life that has shaped me into the person i am today. so, i wanted to list three character traits i have now that came out from the life-changing situation i was in. these three character traits i turned into my three body paragraphs. make sense? like this:
“I never thought I would be put in this position, but it encouraged me to become more self-sufficient, self-advocating, and independent.”
So, i spent a paragraph talking about how the situation led me to be more self-sufficient, then another paragraph on how it made me self-advocating, and then my last body paragraph on my new independence.
You want to make sure your thesis is CLEAR. The reader should know EXACTLY what you’re paper is going to be about from that one sentence.
I hope this helps, and good luck on your paper!
