When writing a paper in APA format, do I need to cite sources in the body of the paper?

I know I should cite all of my references at the end. Do I have to show where I got the info. from in the body too? Or is this just when I'm pararphrasing or directly quoting?

  1. if the information is not common knowledge, you have to cite it. in the body you can either say something along the lines of “Dr. Smith says ……….., (1986).” or just say what Dr. Smith says and then at the end put (Smith, 1986). the references at the end will list Smith, JR and the rest of the citation.

Check to see what else you need to meet the requirements.

Here is one site, there are hundreds of internet sites dedicated to APA style formatting.

  2. When writing in APA format..you always have to cite in the body. Not just only for direct quotes. Since you are paraphrasing the paper than yes…you have to cite.
