College essay- Can I write about this- help?
I am starting to work on college essays. One of them I have to do asks about a significant experience or event in your life. I am going to major in music (double major, but that's one of them) and want to possibly write about going to piano camp in summer. It was at a college other than the one I will be sending this essay to. Is it ok to write this essay if I have to mention the name of another college, but mainly writing about the importance of piano in the summer, not the college itself?

Yes, it is fine to reference schools that you have attended, even for piano camp. You’ll do this from now on when you write your resume or CV. Just be sure you don’t discuss proprietary information from the other school (teaching methods, etc).

I think that it would be ok to mention the piano camp at the other college. As long as you can explain how it was a significant experience/event in you life.

Yes and maybe. Sure, you can write about the piano camp you attended at another college and of course you can name the other college. While colleges have reputations to defend, they aren’t as competitive as, say, department stores. A Walmart associate might be offended by the mention of a Target team member, but a Harvard professor is unlikely to be offended by the mention of a University of Chicago professor.
Now for the maybe: not knowing your experiences at this camp, I would caution you to think hard about whether this is an extremely significant event in your life. Other applicants will be writing about tragedies and insane events like the birth of their child, the death of a parent, a mission trip to a poor African village, etc. You want your event to stand out.

essay topic sounds good, its fine to mention another college in the essay and write something in your essay about the influences of piano through your music experience that summer.
